Radio frequency interference (RFI) is not new to the Civil Aviation (CA) community. However, jamming and spoofing cases are soaring and already impacting CA operations. As a response, the community is developing measures to detect and, if possible, mitigate RFI. This talk will first show real, recent cases of jamming and spoofing worldwide. These will include, but will not be limited to, cases related to the Ukraine war. The talk will then present how these RFI threats are being defined and categorized, which is a necessary precondition to the development of countermeasures. Finally, we will discuss RFI countermeasures with emphasis on GNSS authentication, pioneered by Galileo with OSNMA and also under standardization for SBAS, and other measures at receiver and operational level.
